Sales In More Detail

Sales positions are a very common, but very understated job role.  There are a wide variety of sales roles from face to face in a shop or showroom, to an office selling via email and telephone, or visiting other businesses promoting a particular service or product.

The definition of sales is ‘Where money or value is exchanged for the ownership of a product or entitlement to a service’. It is such an important part to a business so often the more of a positive impact an individual has on the business’ sales, the greater the career opportunity.

Sales roles can involve working independently, managing other individuals or sales teams encouraging an overall positive sales experience for your relevant customer base.

No specific qualifications are required for a career in sales, just a combination of the following key skills and attributes:

  • Good people skills and a positive attitude.

  • Strong verbal and written communications.

  • Good problem solver.

  • Sincerity and empathy.

What Our Team Say

“My role as Sales Manager on a day to day basis involves identifying new business opportunities whilst maintaining and developing relationships with our existing customer base. Alongside this I aim to offer guidance to the sales team around me and help them maximise their careers. I’ve always been motivated to learn and believe that the key to sales is to learn as much as possible about your different customers, so that you are able to offer the most effective solutions to their problems.

Working in sales has always been an ambition of mine, as has being in a position to help others, and I feel very fortunate to have found a role that allows me to compound these two skills. ”

— Luke. From The Anvil Sales Manager.

“My role as Business Growth Coordinator involves taking sales calls and processing the orders, and also to source any non-stock or special items to sell to our customer base of tradespeople. I also have the additional responsibility of developing business and growing revenue by identifying new sales and potential new customer opportunities too, I tackle this part time alongside my other responsibilities and really enjoy challenging part of my job.”

— Dave. Marches Ironmongery Business Growth Coordinator.
